The system attempts to convince us that some of us are smarter than others, yet at the same time that we're all really equal. Paradoxical but still doable, albeit in a rather twisted sort of way. That's not to say that students aren't well taken care of, but that inevitably people fall through the cracks. While the blame may not fall solely on this government's shoulders, it still remains that this system is inherently flawed. These flaws, blatant and obvious continue to be pointed out, highlighted and analysed, yet nothing remains done to correct them.
Eons ago (maybe not so), people fell through the cracks. They neglected their education in place of other pursuits, or simply had no time for proper education. Undeniably measures could've been taken, but up till now we still see this happening. Which loops us around to this operation of meritocracy, where those in positions of power can pull the ladders up with them, or extend them to people who otherwise would be stranded. If those who can do something about it choose to spend their time enjoying their own lives, of course people will suffer. The only way to ensure one's happiness is for someone else to be sad (on a principle of materialism).
